Benefits of Allergy Testing
The prevalence of allergy in Japan is said to be about 1 in 2 to 3 people* for hay fever (cedar pollinosis) and 1 in 3 to 4 people* for allergic rhinitis. The percentage of people with some form of allergy is said to be as high as 1 in 2 people in Japan (approximately 50%), especially those living in urban areas. Therefore, it is important for many people to undergo allergy testing, and specific benefits include the following
*Source「マスト細胞活性化とアレルギー疾患」
(1) Identifying the Cause of Allergies
The cause of allergy symptoms (sneezing, runny nose, itchy skin, coughing, difficulty breathing, etc.) can be clarified. For example, we can identify which allergens* such as pollen, dust mites, food, and animals are affecting you through testing.
*Allergenic substances
(2) Appropriate measures can be taken
Once the allergens are identified, specific measures can be taken to avoid them. For example, if you have hay fever, you can avoid going out on days with high pollen counts; if you have food allergies, you can avoid dangerous foods.
(3) A course of treatment can be determined
Once your allergy is identified, you can choose a treatment (oral medication, immunotherapy, etc.) that is appropriate for your allergy.
(4) Prevent severe allergic reactions
If there is a risk of anaphylactic shock, such as food or drug allergies, testing and knowing in advance can help take appropriate measures and prevent serious allergic reactions.
(5) Clarifying Whether You Have Allergies
Allergy symptoms can be similar to those of a cold or another illness, so it is possible to confirm whether allergy is really the cause. For example, there are cases where “chronic rhinitis is actually allergic rhinitis. Even if you have a feeling that you are allergic to something, but are not sure, a test can clarify whether the cause of your symptoms is allergic or not.
